This loon landed quite close to my kayak this summer, as I photographed the new loon chcik with the north cove pair.  Although,  loon aggression against the nesting pair with the new chick is common, it really appeared to me that this landing was purely social.  The North Cove pair, however, didn't take it that was, and a loud and raucus fight ensued.  The photo of the loon taking off on this page is that poor, unsuspecting  solo loon, high-tailing it out of there!....and it all hapened within  a few yards of my kayak....
