Loon agression is common among loons.  On Grafton Pond, there are 2 established mated pairs.  Very commonly, solo loons will challenge the pair in an attempt to take over the female and  drive the male out or even kill the male.  This year I witnessed many acts of aggression toward the North Cove pair.  In this photo, the loon strongly displays ,  as a warning to the approaching intruders.  He/She was successful in driving a group of 3 bachelor loons off the pond and away from hew newly hatched young.
